The HSE West must make savings of up to 30 million before the end of the year.

It means the region must foot over a quarter of the HSE’s 130 million euro cuts nationwide.

It’s all part of plans to reduce a budget deficit of 259 million.

This means cutting agency staff by 50 percent, cutting overtime by 10 per cent, and reducing home help hours by 5.5 percent.

HSE West regional Chairman, City Councillor Padraig Conneely held talks with the regional director of operations John Hennessy in Galway this afternoon.
