HSE West contacts 19 families over blood group concerns
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The HSE West says 19 children at University Hospital Galway may have been incorrectly blood grouped.
The hospital began contacting all affected mothers on Monday, and a helpline has been set up for anyone concerned about possible wrong blood group diagnosis.
The Irish Medicines Board notified the Health Service Executive that a “field safety notice” had been issued in relation to a small number of products.
The HSE says that the manufacturer has estimated that the potential risk of a kit being labelled incorrectly is less than 1 in 11 million.
