HSE WEST APOLOGISES TO FAMILY OF SEAN FLAHERTY
Date Published: 18-Jul-2008
The HSE West has apologised to the family of a Connemara man who was killed in road accident after leaving the A&E Department of University Hospital Galway in February.
59 year old Seán Flaherty died after being hit by a car on the main Galway-Clifden road at Bushypark on February 27th, shortly after being discharged from UHG.
Seán Flaherty’s GP had organised a taxi to bring him to the hospital to have a routine procedure on his arm and outlined in a letter that Mr. Flaherty had speech and hearing problems.
However no transport was organised to take Séan Flaherty home to Clifden so he began walking and was fatally injured after he was hit by a car on the main Galway to Clifden road later that evening.
Mayor of Galway, Padraig Conneely, was instrumental in organising today’s meeting with the victims family.
He told Galway Bay FM news it was an emotional meeting.
