HSE to consider proposal to hold more public mental health meetings in county
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The HSE is to consider a proposal that a series of public meetings on mental health services also be held in Tuam, Ballinasloe and Portumna.
Meetings to allow people share their views on how these services are developed and delivered are already scheduled to take place in Galway and Clifden next week.
At this week’s meeting of the regional health forum, councillors agreed that more areas should be included for the mental health meetings.
Forum member and Councillor Tim Broderick claimed the HSE wouldn’t ‘dare come anywhere near Ballinasloe’
It follows the controversial closure of acute psychiatric beds at St. Brigid’s hospital.
Regional director of performance and integration Gerry O’ Neill said the decision on the location of the meetings was not made locally but by the national advocacy unit.
He added he would put forward the proposal for extra meetings for their consideration.
Ballinasloe area Independent councillor Tim Broderick says he’s worried this request will fall on deaf ears
