HSE SPENDS TWO MILLION A YEAR ON GALWAY RENTS
Date Published: 28-May-2012
HSE West pays nearly two million euro a year to rent property in Galway city and county.
According to the figures released at this month’s Regional Health Forum the monthly rent for one building alone in Westside is seventy-two thousand euro.
Community Care services on the Seamus Quirke road attracts an annual bill of just under nine hundred thousand euro.
In a written response to a question by local city councillor Catherine Connolly, the HSE West said the annual rent bill was down by nearly three hundred thousand euro since 2009, and that it had reduced the number of rentals from seventy to forty.
Catherine Cunningham, HSE area manager said efforts are being made to reduce the rental bill further, and that the eight-and-a-half hundred thousand euro lease used for community care services at West City Centre would be discontinued by year end.
The HSE said further rental reductions can be expected next year, as the Health Sercvice avails of scheduled lease breaks.
Councillor Catherine Connolly questioned the HSE figures saying some rentals were missing from the list but welcomed the progress being made.
