HSE SAYS GALWAY HOSPITAL BUDGET CUTS NOT SIGNIFICANT
Date Published: 23-Jan-2008
The half a million euro budget cut for the two Galway city public hospitals has been described by a HSE official as “not very significant” in the overall budget
HSE Hospitals Manager, Alan Moran, was responding to a question about the impact of the budget cuts at a meeting of the West Regional Health Forum yesterday [22/1]
It was revealed earlier this month that budgets at University Hospital Galway and Merlin Park Hospital were to be cut by a quarter of a million euro each
This is part of a Government initiative called ‘Casemix’ that rewards or penalises hospitals based on their efficiency level
Alan Moran says that the budget for the two hospitals is 280 million euro and that the budget cuts will not be enormously significant in that context
However, Councillor Conneely says he is disappointed with this response from the Hospital Network Manager
