HSE’s ‘crazy bureaucracy’ cuts

HEALTH service staff and employers in the West met before the Labour Relations Commission on Tuesday to discuss proposed spending cut-backs of €1 million a month which staff have claimed are unworkable.

Representatives of Health Service Executive (HSE) West workers have described the cuts as “bureaucracy gone crazy” after they were advised to cease all ‘non-clinical’ travel and cut all staff travel by 20%.

IMPACT members have reacted angrily to the plans to slash travel and subsistence costs in the wake of a directive which was issued by the HSE’s National Director of Finance, Liam Woods after the HSE West was found to be €4.2 million over budget in the first four months of this year.
