The HSE West is rejecting claims that plans to claw back millions of euro from their budget will impact on the future of Galway’s cancer services.

A leaked document circulated among staff at University Hospital Galway, caused concern that the hospital would have to withdraw from the centre of excellence scheme if cutbacks outlined in the document were put in place.

These proposals include the implementation of five day wards, reducing absenteeism and increasing day surgery.

However, in a statement to Galway Bay Fm News, the HSE says the proposals have not been agreed upon and there are no plans to curtail cancer services in Galway.
