The rate of delay in delivering Galway child development clinics is of substantial concern and WILL be addressed.

That’s according to HSE Regional Director of Operations Bernard Gloster who told last evening’s HSE West forum that substantial progress will be made by September.

959 babies aged between 7 and 9 months are awaiting appointment as are a further 14 hundred children aged 10 months and over.

A backlog also exists in review appointments with 244 children awaiting the service.

Speaking to Galway Bay fm news, Cllr Catherine Connolly says the delays must be addressed to ensure problems are caught early on thereby preventing further cost to the state
