HSE defends capacity levels at UHG psychiatric unit
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The HSE has defended its current capacity levels at the psychiatric unit at University Hospital Galway.
The matter was rasied by city councillor Catherine Connolly at this week’s meeting of the HSE Regional Health Forum West.
The HSE has confirmed that as of this week, only 37 beds out of 45 are occupied, and says there’s been an average of 8 vacant beds since mid-May.
However, Councillor Connolly is criticising what she describes as ‘piece meal’ information on conditions at the facility.
She says the Mental Health Commission has found a number of issues with the unit over the past four years.
