HSE defends ambulance service response times at UHG
Galway Bay fm newsroom – The HSE has defended ambulance response times at UHG.
It’s after the matter was raised in the Seanad today by Galway Senator Trevor O’Clochartaigh who said abulance services in the West of Ireland are in chaos.
He claims earlier this month, five ambulances were stuck in University Hospital Galway at the same time due to delays at the facility.
This, he said, led to a waiting time of two to three hours for ambulance crews to be dispatched.
The Sinn Fein Senator also referred to the new ambulance base in Tuam which he says cannot function properly due to inadequate staffing.
The HSE says hospitals across the region are experiencing a surge in demand at this time of year which can impact ambulance turnaround times.
However Senator O’Clochartaigh says lives are at stake and an immediate debate on the matter is required.
