Galway Bay fm newsroom – HSE officials have declined to comment on whether any action will be taken against clinicians and others over the care provided to Savita Halappanavar at UHG last year.

The matter was raised at a meeting of the HSE Regional Health Forum West last evening.

31 year old Savita Halappanavar died at University Hospital Galway on the 28th October last year after suffering a miscarriage, 17 weeks into her pregnancy.

Forum Chairperson Cllr Padraig Conneely tabled a question to officials asking what action would be taken against clinicians and others for the standard of care provided at UHG to the late Savita Halappanavar as published by the independent clinical review.

The HSE reply advised that the Health Minister decided that the report is referred to the Medical Council and to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland for consideration.

The outcome of both of these developments is awaited by UHG.

It added that in the meantime, it would not be appropriate to comment further.
