The opening hours of Limerick’s Mid-Western Regional Hospital Emergency Department won’t be curtailed, meaning University Hospital Galway will not face extra pressure.

The announcement was made at a meeting of the West Regional Health Forum in Merlin Park yesterday. [21/6]

The comments come amid concerns that a closure of Limerick’s night time A&E service could result in patients being transferred to UHG’s emergency unit.

The Limerick hospital is under pressure due to an ongoing crisis in recruiting junior doctors.

Director of Operations for HSE West John Hennessy said that other plans were being considered and that there would be “no effect on UHG’s A and E”.
