HP staff ‘optimistic’ about cuts

EMPLOYEES of the Hewlett Packard (HP) plant in the city remain “reasonably optimistic” that they can survive the company’s latest 2% global workforce cut. Earlier this week HP confirmed that it would be shedding 6,400 jobs worldwide, without specifying where the axe would fall. HP in Galway employs approximately 500 people.
This week the company were remaining tight-lipped on any potential job losses at its Irish operations where overall 4,000 people are employed in Kildare, Dublin, Galway and Belfast.
