Galway householders still boiling water despite all-clear in tests

Residents in North Galway are still boiling their drinking water – despite the fact that the latest samples taken show no evidence of contamination.

Now householders and businesses in Ballygar are bemused that they have been told not to drink the water from the taps despite tests giving it the all-clear.

It is understood that that Irish Water were anxious to determine the impact of the heavy rainfalls that occurred last Friday and again earlier this week on the water quality.

But now they have been urged to lift the boil notice as it seems that there is no contamination risk as a result of the heavy rainfall.

Representatives from Irish Water held a meeting with the HSE to review the boil water notice that is in place in Ballygar.

The boil water notice still remains in place in the village and Irish Water urges people to follow the advice of the HSE in relation to such measures.

“All samples taken this week have come back as negative which would indicate that there is no contamination across the network.

“Irish Water will continue sampling over the course of next week and will meet with the HSE again to review the situation and provide an update.

“Irish Water apologises for the inconvenience caused, however, our priority is the safety of the public water supply,” they said in a statement.
