Plans are in the pipeline to build a 140 bedroom hotel on the site of the Connacht Court laundry company on Henry Street.

Developers have already met one local residents association and has asked for a meeting with at least one other.

Plans outlined to The West Residents’ Association showed a four storey building with 140 bedrooms, most of them mini family rooms or suites (with sitting room but no kitchen), a small residents bar and restaurant, a leisure centre, a small function room and landscaped gardens with water features.

More than likely the main entrance would be from St. Mary’s Road though a site entrance would remain on Henry Street.

The developers haven’t lodged their hotel plans with Galway City Council as yet as they might be assessing local opinion before purchasing the two acre site, which has a price tag of €10million.

Connacht Court is moving its business to a purpose-built premises in the Galway West Business and Retail Park, an investment of about €15million.
