Host of festivals back for first time since Covid – with a little helping hand

A diverse range of festivals will return this year for the first time since Covid-19 – with financial support from Galway County Council.

Festivals celebrating gardens, mountain walks, theatre and a variety of music genres are among the list of small grant allocations announced by the Council.

The local authority has allocated over a quarter of a million Euros to a host of community festivals and events as part of its Community Support Scheme 2022.

Under the scheme, unanimously approved by Galway County Councillors at the latest meeting, a range of other projects were supported including investment in the work of Tidy Towns committees right across the county.

Some of the festivals supported by the scheme include: Galway Garden Festival (€3,750), Crinniú na mBád (€2,750), Connemara Walking Festival in Leenane (€3,000), Meelick River Fest (€2,500), Galway County Fleadh (€2,800), Creggs Harvest Festival (€1,200), Ballygar Carnival (€1,000), Glenamaddy Theatre Festival (€1,000), Féile Cheoil Larry Reynolds (€1,200), Festival Weekend in Inis Mór (€1,500), Connemara Pony Show (€2,000), Clifden Trad Fest (€2,300), Conamara Sea Week (€1,500), Clonbur Authors Weekend (€1,000), Dessie O’Halloran Music Weekend (€1,500), Headfest Festival (€1,000), Eyrecourt Community Gathering (€1,000) and Coiste Féile Joe Einniú.

Director of Services for Housing, Economic, Rural and Community Development, Liam Hanrahan said: “Due to the difficulties and restrictions imposed under Covid-19 regulations, many festivals and events were unable to proceed over the last number of years.
