Hospice projects offer hope during challenging times
Galway Hospice is asking people to share their story of living with loss during Covid, via a new project, Meallan Scéal Scéal Eile/One Story Encourages Another. It’s a creative outlet for those who are experiencing loss during this challenging time.
Anyone can submit a written piece – this can be a short narrative, reflection or poem, whatever works for you.
“As we know, the definition of loss has changed dramatically so we are asking for your unique experience of loss, in whatever form it takes,” explains Art Therapist at Galway Hospice Kathy Hyland.
“The importance of being heard, understood and not forgotten is at the heart of this project and encapsulates the ethos of the hospice,” she adds.
A number of submissions will be included in a short video montage with music and imagery. The pieces will be spoken by a reader for the recording.
This initiative of the Galway Hospice Bereavement and Art Therapy services has been funded by the Irish Hospice Foundation and the Government-backed Creative Ireland Programme under its national SEEDS programme.
Bereavement Services Coordinator at Galway Hospice, Hazel Greene, says its aim is a “simple hope that we can offer people some sense of solace and extract the beauty in this raw and vulnerable time”.
The closing date is 2pm on Friday, March 12. Submissions can be sent by email to ArtTherapist@galwayhospice.ie or by post to Hazel Greene, Bereavement Services Coordinator, Galway Hospice, Renmore, Galway.
