Galway West TD Sean Kyne says he’s confident that court services through the medium of Irish will remain in the Gaeltacht region despite growing concerns over relocation plans.

This comes as a review of services in Kilronan on Inis Mor, An Spideal and Derrynea is underway.

During a meeting between Deputy Kyne and court service representatives it was revealed that while there is no great cost in the running of services at Kilronan, courthouses at An Spideal and Derrynea are insufficient in terms of size and space.

As part of a national review, a report is to be submitted to the Court Services Board by the end of this month.

And Deputy Kyne says that while new venues need to be located, he is hopeful that services will be retained in the Connemara Gaeltacht area.

The matter has also been raised in the Seanad this week as well as concerns over the future of rural garda stations around the county.

Galway West Sinn Fein Senator Trevor O’Clochartaigh raised the matter in the upper house and called for debate with Minister Alan Shatter on the issue.
