Hopes high as Caulfield’s men swing into First Division action
THERE hasn’t been this much excitement about an upcoming Galway United League of Ireland campaign in years.
After new manager John Caulfield ignited an unlikely bid for promotion from a seemingly hopeless position last year, the Tribesmen are determined to kick on in the months ahead.
United’s First Division campaign swings into action with a difficult assignment against freshly-demoted Shelbourne at Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday night (7.45).
With former Cork City boss Caulfield shaking up his backroom staff – notably the appointment of Lisa Fallon as first-team head coach – and also overhauling his player resources, optimism about a progressive season is justified.
Galway United have been threading water in the First Division since falling out of the top flight in October of 2017, but the time is right for the club to make a big splash in 2021.
