Hoade: ‘we need a stable government’

A Fianna Fáil Galway county councillor says the country needs stable Government.

Mary Hoade, who was eliminated after the 8th count in Galway West, said ultimately the party members will decide whether to enter a coalition with Fine Gael

“It is important to have a stable Government,” she said.

“All paid up members of the party will have a say at a special Árd Fheis where there needs to be a two-thirds majority in favour of it.”

Cllr Hoade said she ran a good campaign but geography worked against her.

Based near Annaghdown, Cllr Hoade reckons about 3,000 first preferences votes she won in the 2014 local elections were ‘lost’ in this general election as they are in Galway East.

She won some votes in South Mayo but not enough.

“I am still a county councillor and I will continue to work on the Council. I have a lot of issues that came up during the canvass that I will be following up now in the coming weeks.”
