Hitch prevents homecoming for brave Galway boy
A last minute hitch in securing a vital piece of equipment has led to Clonberne toddler Liam Mac an tSaoi’s discharge from Galway University Hospital being postponed indefinitely.
After three years and nine months of life almost entirely confined to a hospital ward with a host of medical difficulties, his family was all set to take the plunge on Monday.
His mum Louise believed she had overcome the last of a long line of obstacles to finally bring her “maneen” home for good.
“On Friday funding was approved for his leg and we have been delivered his wheelchair adapted car so finally all is coming together,” she told the Connacht Tribune just ahead of the unexpected discharge.
However shortly afterwards staff dropped a bombshell.
“Unfortunately …. blast-off had to be postponed today. Louise learned this in the late afternoon and understandably was devastated.
“She had just contacted her sister to tell her the great news that HSE finally released the funding for Liam’s leg and measurement was taking place today,” explained a friend who posted the news on Facebook.
