Historian and age old tradition honoured in Tuam

AN historian and the age old tradition of tea dances have been honoured in Tuam when the people of the year awards were announced earlier this week.
Well known historian, Tony Claffey has been named as the Tuam Person of the Year for
2009 and he will be presented with his award at a function in the town in early March.
And the organising committee behind the hugely successful tea dances in Tuam have been honoured with the group award – the committee is headed by local hairdresser Della Dolan.
This group hold a regular Sunday afternoon tea dance in Tuam which has proved hugely
popular and has succeeded in raising over €100,000 for several charities.
