Portiuncula Hospital had the longest emergency admission delays in the country following a spotcheck carried out in August last year.

That’s according to the Health Information and Quality Authority which carried out the snapshot study of emergency rooms on August 24th last.

The HIQA report published this week shows that a patient in the Ballinasloe hospital had waited one hundred and thirty eight hours, or nearly six days to be admitted on that specific day.

In a statement today, the HSE says it’s examining the report, its figures and the source of its data.

The HSE says hospital patient wait times have already improved at Portiuncula hospital, and that 90% of patients that presented in A&E in the first two weeks of May were seen and discharged within 6 hours of presentation and that no patient waited over 24 hours.
