HIQA PUBLISHES REPORT ON REGULATORY COMPLIANCE AT OUGHTERARD OWEN RIFF NURSING HOME
Date Published: 26-Nov-2012
The Health, Information and Quality Authority has today (Nov 26)published its latest inspection report into Owen Riff nursing home in Oughterard.
It’s based on an unannounced inspection in September with the purpose of monitoring ongoing regulatory compliance.
The HSE has been the registered provider of the facility since earlier this year due to an order by the District Court in accordance with Section 64 of the Health Act 2007.
In this report, the items inspected against over two days included Safeguarding and Safety, Health and Safety and Risk Management,Medication Management,Notification of Incidents, Food and Nutrition and Suitable Staffing.
Overall, this latest inspection, while under the operation of the HSE, found that residents’ healthcare needs were being well met.
Residents had access to a range of allied health professionals, and general practitioners carried out regular medical reviews of residents.
However, the inspector was significantly concerned that the health and safety of all residents had not been safeguarded.
These concerns related to the safety of some immobile residents in the event of an emergency evacuation from the centre, the absence of an emergency plan, the inappropriate use of metal bedrails and inadequate precautions taken to protect residents from abuse.
An action plan was issued over various points and responded to by the provider earlier this month.
