Elaine Mai...hotly anticipated debut album now out.

One of the most highly anticipated debut albums of the year is that of Westport-born electronic artist Elaine Mai. With a string of acclaimed singles and EPs assembling her catalogue since 2012, the songwriter and producer has announced herself with this project as a seminal electronic recording artist on the national stage. That reputation is amplified by the platform this LP is built on – namely a string of the country’s best female artists.

Home was released on October 8 and, across its nine synth-based tracks, features Ailbhe Reddy, MayKay, Sinéad White and Loah. Elaine will celebrate the launch in Dublin’s Workman’s Club this Friday, October 29. The timing all seems to be right. Home signs off on the depths of the pandemic and it proves that the last eighteen months didn’t go to waste.

“I’ve been really happy to see people say they like it,” she notes. “It’s been a long time in the making so it’s good to get it out there now. It’s a great feeling for sure. I think sometimes, with my previous experiences with EPs and stuff like that, you release them and it almost feels like that’s it. You need to move on to the next thing.

“With this, it’s entwined quite nicely with gigs coming back and that so for now, the focus for me will be very much on playing this stuff live and continuing to push the album. It feels great to be in that position.”

Playing a handful of gigs over the last month or two has allowed Elaine to perform some of the tracks on the LP. Despite all the warm online reception for the album and the singles that preceded it, she admits it was impossible to fully understand the impact the songs would have in a physical environment.
