Galway Bay fm newsroom – An Bord Pleanala has upheld the county councils decision in granting permission for the continued use of a second longterm halting site at Carrowbrowne.

However, it is a temporary permission for 12 months only.

The site was originally used to provide temporary accomodation during the refurbishment of the nearby carrowbrowne halting site.

There are around 13 families, including over 30 children at the site, which holds 15 serviced halting bays.

Galway County Council granted permission for the long term continuous use of the transient halting site in July.

This decision was later appealed by the Headford Road Business alliance, and an oral hearing on the plans took place in the city in November.

An bord Pleanala has now ruled to allow temporary permission for the use of the transient halting site for 12 months only.

It adds that a programme for the maintenance of the site during the period of the temporary permission must be agreed in writing.
