High time to ProCeed to estate models

Our reluctance in this country to owning estate cars puts us at odds with the rest of Europe. It seems strange then that we are so obsessed with SUVs when the practicalities of an estate far outweigh the category. Sure, you don’t get the high driving position but, you get a lot more instead.

Also many, if not all estates look far better in the metal than their hatch or saloon equivalents. Take the Kia ProCeed, their new partner to the Ceed Sportswagon and the Ceed hatchback. It stands out from the norm because of its racy shape and coupe styling. Each in its own right is a very handsome car, but the ProCeed with its ‘shooting brake’ shape is the best of breed in my opinion.

You get all that additional space in a car that has a sleeker silhouette because of its low, sloping roof line and its wider stance. It is a little wider the Ceed Sportswagon and lower too by 43mm. That gives the five-door estate a really sporty image and the extra length is extended into the cabin offering good space in the living quarters and the boot.

Luggage capacity of 594 litres with all the seats in place is available and in addition it is fitted with split-fold rear seats and under-floor storage for smaller items.

Kia has decided to keep things simple for the buyer by offering just one version, the ProCeed GT. You get one price (€28,945) and all the standard specification that is quite extensive.

Here is a car that is equipped with an 8.0 inch touchscreen infotainment system, bluetooth smartphone integration and safety features including: High Beam Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Lane Keeping Assist with Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist and pedestrian recognition.
