He may be all sweetness and light these days but Roy Keane can still draw a crowd — and fans of all ages flocked to see him in Galway this week.

His Sunderland charges drew a full-house to the magnificent surrounds of the new look
Terryland Park on Wednesday night, but Keano was already a winner before that after a whirlwind two days in Galway.

He held a training session for young stars of the future at Terryland on Tuesday as Minister for Arts, Sports and Tourism Seamus Brennan returned to his native city to officially open the club’s new stand.

Irish manager Steve Staunton was at the same function, but there was no doubting who the fans turned out to see. And the Corkman didn’t let them down, patiently signing autographs, posing for photographs and even answering media questions.

The former angry young man is now every inch the modern manager and his club chairman Niall Quinn’s presence — as well as that of legendary Sunderland star and Corkman Charlie Hurley — left no doubt that the club wants to even further enhance its Irish connections.
