Heroics, humour and magic in high-quality Fíbín panto
Fionn agus an Bradán Feasa
LÉIRMHEAS LE BERNIE NÍ FHLATHARTA
Is iomaí bealach le scéal a insint agus rinne Fíbín sa Taibhdhearc an-éacht an gheamaireacht a uasaid chun finscéal Fionn agus an Bradán Feasa a chuir faoi láthair an phobal.
An Taibhdhearc has been staging Irish language pantos for years but Fíbín have up the ante since the Conamara-based company took over the historic theatre. For starters they have steered away from the panto clichés and have concentrated on doing what they do best — high quality shows which shine in any language. Theirs happen to be Gaeilge.
And as we know from seeing a variety of performances in many languages over the years at the Galway International Arts Festival, language is not a barrier if the production ticks other boxes, particularly entertainment.
And this telling of Fionn Mac Cumhail’s Irish legend of how he got his wisdom through the salmon of knowledge is certainly entertaining and highly enjoyable. So much so, that I hope they produce a few more legend-based shows.
The show starts under water, in Lough Corrib to be exact, in a beautiful colourful set, and from there, the stage turns into a woodland as well as a forest, where the fairies live.
It immediately draws you into the story and the magic lasts, without intermission, for the next hour and a half or so.
