Hermitage Green return with new single

Hermitage Green will be in Róisín Dubh this Saturday night, as part of a nationwide tour to mark the release of their latest single. The quintet, who play folk with a pop tinge, began life playing informal sessions over a few pints in the back room of the Curragower Pub in Limerick City in 2010.   From that, they were asked to gig at a pub in Adare, and things just took off.

Hermitage Green found themselves in demand in their own area – at one point they were playing six nights a week in different venues.

“That whole folk scene blew open when Mumford & Sons and the likes of those bands came around,” says lead singer and bass player Barry Murphy. “That, in hand with the recession. There was a demand for that kind of music, not big sound-systems. Just acoustic, folky kind of stuff.”

That brand of folk-pop led to an Australian tour for Hermitage Green, as well a regular slot on RTÉ 2 sports show Second Captains. Their debut album, Live at Whelan’s, was released two years ago and they have just released a new single, Jenny, their first since signing to Sony Ireland. They will take part in this year’s Indiependence Festival in Cork, playing the main stage on Sunday, August 2, before Kodaline and the Dandy Warhols.

Doors for this gig are 8pm, tickets €16/€14 members.
