Heritage Week Attracts World Class Musicians

A LUNCHTIME recital by world-renowned musician, Micheál Ó Súilleabháin, will be among the highlights of this year’s Galway Heritage Week, which runs from next Sunday.

Professor of Music at the University of Limerick, where he founded the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, Mr Súilleabháin is regarded is one of Ireland’s best known musicians.

Keyboard Conversation will take the form of a lunchtime recital in GMIT in the middle of the week. Heritage Week was launched last evening with The Cromwellian Siege of Galway, a special talk by historian, Peadar O’Dowd, accompanied by an exhibition by Judy Ratliff, at Galway City Museum.

The week of events, organised by Dúchas na Gaillimhe (Galway Civic Trust), will kick off properly on Sunday, August 24, with the first of a number of historical walks around Galway accompanied by local historians and archaeologists. Each will leave from Browne Doorway, Eyre Square, and last for about one hour.
