Hell hath no fury like politicians scorned
Bradley Bytes – A sort of political column by Dara Bradley
Voters tend to dislike politicians. But it works both ways.
And, let us tell you, there are many politicians in Galway who aren’t happy with you. Yes, you.
When politicians fail to deliver on election promises, we moan about them. We write to newspaper editors. Complain to Joe Duffy. Make outrageous outbursts on social networking sites.
Voters expect a lot from politicians.
Politicians don’t ask for much in return. All they ask is for you to lend them your vote.
Many of you didn’t bother your barney to exercise your franchise, though.
That’s fair enough; in a democracy, we are free to pretty much do what we wish, and so if you don’t want to vote you don’t have to.
But don’t think you’ve gotten away with it. Big Brother is watching you and knows if you’ve voted or not.
Courtesy of the ‘marked’ electoral register, Galway City Councillors can tell whether you voted or not.
They can’t ascertain who you voted for but they know if you voted.
And let us tell you, they’re pretty pissed with those of you who said you’d vote but didn’t bother.
They’ve met you since, and you let on that you voted for them, but they know, from studying the marked electoral register, that you’re lying and didn’t vote at all.
“Flabbergasted. I was absolutely flabbergasted when I saw who hadn’t voted,” said one City Councillor.
“Friends, people I’ve worked hard for, people I’ve got planning permission and zonings and got Council houses for. They didn’t vote. Ungrateful f@@k@rs,” fumed the elected representative.
All city councillors who have viewed the marked register are said to be astounded by the list which shows who didn’t vote.
“They couldn’t all have been away on holidays,” snorted another disgruntled city councillor.
It may be several months on from the May local elections but they’re still raw.
You have been warned, folks.
Politicians are on the rampage, and they’re gunning for you, the voter who didn’t vote.
