Hectic weekend faces United with ties against Treaty and Longford Town

A quirk of the fixture list gave John Caulfield the chance last Saturday to throw an eye over the two sides Galway United will face over this May Bank Holiday weekend, as Longford Town were held to a scorless draw at home by Treaty United.

The Midlands outfit are the only side to have beaten United this season, and the Tribesmen will look to avenge that loss when the sides meet in Eamonn Deacy Park on Monday (5pm); but before that, they make the trip down the M18 this Friday to take on Treaty United at the Markets Field (7.45pm).

Treaty were arguably the team of the season last year, having been cobbled together a couple of weeks before the campaign got underway, and Tommy Barrett’s side finished fourth in the table, only to lose to eventual promoted side, UCD, in the play-off semi-final.

They have made the exact same start to the 2022 season as they did after 10 games in 2021: four wins, four draws and two defeats, with 13 goals scored and 10 conceded. United won 1-0 down there last season, after drawing 1-1 in Eamonn Deacy Park earlier in the campaign; and they go into Friday’s game looking for a third win on the spin against the latest entity to represent the Treaty City after a 2-1 victory in Eamonn Deacy Park back in March.
