More than 150 people and 13 city councillors attended a meeting in the city last night [6/7] to discuss plans for a site off the Séamus Quirke Road.

Residents Associations in Highfield, Maunsells and Shantalla have heavily campaigned against the proposal to redesignate the site in Rahoon to allow a 35 million euro Tesco development.

They’ve asked Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin to direct party Councillors on Galway City Council not to allow the proposed site to be re-zoned.

A vote to re-zone the former yard on the Rahoon/Seamus Quirke Road will be taken on Monday.[11/7]
