Heartbreak for West Utd again

FOR the past two years Galway sides have left a memorable impression in the FAI Junior Cup as firstly Athenry qualified for the final and last season Salthill Devon were beaten semi finalists after despatching West Utd in an all local quarter final.
That set back was a bitter pill to swallow for West, so when last Sunday’s sixth round contest with Douglas Hall also finished in a similar outcome with a penalty shoot out defeat those memories were also hard to erase.
With the defeat of St Patrick’s to an injury time winner from Corduff Utd in Drom the outcome is that Galway will have no representation in the last sixteen of the competition.
In the Connacht Junior Cup the holders Athenry had to produce an energetic finale to see off the challenge of Straide & Foxford before winning 3- 1,while Colga and Medtronic also advanced.
