HSE officials say a planned rollout of first responder training as well as other measures should assist in supporting ambulance response times throughout the West.

Forum Chairperson Cllr Padraig Conneely queried a recent report which showed that the West had one of the poorest response times for life threatening cardiac emergencies.

Area Operations Manager with the National Ambulance Service Paudie O’Riordan said the situation with such eight minute response times is a challenge and will need time and investment.

Cllr Padraig Conneely says more immediate action is needed.
