Heads together!

When you think of wellknown husband and wife teams, one that’s likely to spring to the minds of many these days is Bill and Hillary Clinton.

But closer to home, a different duo may have come to the minds of those over at Coláiste Iognáid recently, as long-time teacher Bernie O’Connell takes over as headmaster at the Jesuit secondary school … just across the road from where his wife, Maree, has been principal of the primary school for the last eight years.

But the pair are quick to dismiss any notion that they may be the new ‘power couple’ in Galway’s education world.

“Anything but. We would be very committed to our jobs, and we would love them, but that’s it,” Maree says.
