HEADFORD GARDAI TO PROBE BOAT ENGINE SMUGGLING RING

Gardai in Headford are to investigate possible links between an Eastern European boat engine smuggling ring and the recent theft of boat engines from Lough Corrib.

None of the five boat outboard engines stolen in Headford last month has been recovered.

Gardai in North Tipperary are this week carrying out extensive investigations into an Eastern European-based smuggling ring linked to a spate of thefts of outboard engines from marinas along Lough Derg.

Gardai are now investigating the possibility the outboard engines are being stolen to order and shipped to Eastern Europe.
