A group of young Headford students are hoping to repeat the success of their school predecessors on the racing track – by making it to the top of the world.

The team from Presentation College have entered this year’s F1 in Schools competition, bidding to match or beat their school-mates, who went all the way to the World Finals in Abu Dhabi in 2014.

Ignition Racing – the current Junior National Champions now bidding for senior success – comprise three Fifth Year students from PCH.

Ryan Spencer, Mark Jennings and Mark Conway were inspired to enter the competition after having witnessed the success of their predecessors.

The F1 competition aims to promote the STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) subjects in addition to business.

The team must design and produce a mini scale F1 car, portfolio, engineering drawings as well as a verbal presentation to name a few aspects.

The Ignition Racing team, who are contesting in the Senior Category this year, must produce a mini F1 car using CAD/CAM software.

They must also prepare a presentation for delivery to judges, detailing how they manufactured their car as well as explaining the work they’ve carried out in marketing and securing sponsorship for the project.

“We are currently on our mission to secure sponsorship as well as relevant partnership for the competition, as well as commencing the design of the all-important car and portfolio,” said team leader Ryan Spencer.

“We would ask any business who may wish to offer their advice or services to us, or better still, their financial backing, or a mixture of these, to get in contact with us. All our contact details are available on our website.

“We are determined to reach and conquer the World Finals in 2016, this year’s location being Texas,” he said.

They have already received support from McHale, Galway Natural Gas and Road Maintenance Services – and they have just secured a partnership deal with Dublin native product design company, Dolmen.

“We look forward to working with all our sponsors and partners in order to get them excellent returns from their investments. Watch this space!” said Mark Conway, Marketing and Communications Manager with the team.

All the team’s contact details are available on their website and you can follow the team on their epic journey on all major social networking sites, the links to which are also on their website.
