Dublin-born artist Harrie McManus will be holding her first solo exhibition in Galway next month since she moved her at the end of 2017.

Inspired by her adopted city and its surroundings, the exhibition, entitled Into The West, will run throughout September in the exhibition space of the Galway Designers Studio House in The Cornstore, Middle Street –  the official opening will be on Thursday, September 6.

“It’s a young space, for new, young artist and designers,” Harrie says of the Studio House. “I may not be young in years, but I am young in heart and new to Galway, so the venue seemed an appropriate choice. I’m delighted to be exhibiting my work in such a colourful, modern, vibrant location.”

Harrie might be new to Galway, but she’s a familiar face on the Irish art scene. She’s vice-president of the United Arts Club in Dublin, has exhibited at the Royal Hibernian Academy and in the National Portrait Exhibition, and has paintings in private collections worldwide.

As a teacher in Dublin’s Sutton Park School and Holy Faith School, Killester, Harrie has taught generations of budding artists to draw and paint. She continued her teaching role while Artist in Residence on RTÉ’s daytime TV shows Live at 3 and PM Live, something she did for almost a decade.

Her TV appearances and nationwide courses gave her the confidence to focus on creating her own work, as did the encouragement of her pupils, many of whom she has been mentoring for decades.
