“Lucky” and “happy” are words that Cork actor Pat Kinevane uses frequently as he’s discussing his latest show, King, which is coming to Galway’s Town Hall Theatre next Wednesday, March 1, as part of a national tour.

Written and performed by Pat, it’s the story of Luther, a man from Cork who was named in memory of his Granny Bee Baw’s hero, Dr Martin Luther King Jr.  Luther only leaves his apartment for essential journeys – and to perform as an Elvis impersonator.

King explores prejudice, privilege and resilience, as Luther tries to live his life to the full.

“There’s fun in the piece too,” its creator stresses.  “Luther finds the world hilarious in his own way.”

As for his formidable granny, “she knows her stuff and she doesn’t give a sh*t”.

Like Pat’s previous one-man shows, King is being presented by Dublin’s Fishamble Theatre and directed by Jim Culleton.

Before he took a new creative direction in life, Pat worked as an actor with all of Ireland’s main theatre companies, including the Abbey, the Gate and Druid.
