Handel’s Messiah to make a glorious return to St Nicholas’
Music for Galway and Irish Baroque Orchestra present Handel’s Messiah with Eamonn Dougan as director, and the Resurgam choir and soloists, on Sunday December 7, in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church, Galway, at 6.30pm
The IBO’s annual production of Handel’s masterpiece is a memorable and glorious affair and has become a firm fixture in many a Galwegian’s Christmas diary.
This year the orchestra and the wonderful Resurgam choir return to St. Nicholas’ Collegiate Church led by acclaimed guest conductor Eamonn Dougan, who is Principal Guest Conductor of The National Youth Choir of Great Britain and Chorus Director of Britten Sinfonia Voices and Associate Conductor of The Sixteen.
They will be joined by outstanding Irish soloists Sinead O’Kelly (soprano), Anne-Marie Gibbons (mezzo), Eamonn Mulhall (tenor) and Owen Gilhooly (baritone).
The IBO’s authentic performance tells the universal story of triumph over trial, where life’s sorrows and despairs are met by overriding hope and unbridled joy.
After performing the work in the round for the last two years, this year it will be performed on a full stage again. Book early to avoid disappointment, bring a cushion and wrap up warm!
