CITY TRIBUNE
Handel’s Messiah at Galway Cathedral
Music for Galway and the Irish Baroque Orchestra have teamed up once again to present Handel’s Messiah in Galway Cathedral this Saturday, December 7, at 7.30pm.
Presented on a specially designed stage and beautifully lit, this stunning production of Handel’s masterpiece features the Irish Baroque Orchestra on period instruments.
They will be joined by the superb Sestina Choir and a world class line-up of soloists: Emma Morwood (soprano), Rachel Kelly (mezzo soprano), Anthony Gregory (tenor) and Edward Grint (bass), under the baton of IBO Artistic Director Peter Whelan.
Audiences can expect to be transported by Handel’s spellbinding pieces such as the uplifting Comfort Ye, For Unto us a Child is Born, and the unforgettable Hallelujah chorus.
The advice is to bring cushions for maximum comfort and to ensure that the audience leave the church well prepared for the joys of Christmas.
Tickets are €25/€22.50 for MfG Friends. For students and the unwaged they are €21, and for students the cost is €12.50. Booking online at www.musicforgalway.ie or by phone on 091 705962.
