The Border, Midland and Western Regional Assembly has handed over an initial grant of just over half a million euro for a bus and cycle corridor on the Bishop O’Donnell- Seamus Quirke Road.

The allocation to Galway City Council has been made under the European Regional Development Fund grant scheme for the region’s designated Gateways and Hub towns.

The scheme has provided 1.6km of a four lane divided carriageway, a dedicated bus lane and provides a two metre wide footpath and a two metre wide off road cycle lane in each direction.

The scheme incorporates five upgraded and signalised junctions all of which have pedestrian and cycle facilities.
