HALF A MILLION EURO EXPENSES FOR GALWAY OIREACHTAS MEMBERS LAST YEAR

Galway TDs and Senators were paid more than 464 thousand euro in expenses last year.

Under the new system known as the parliamentary standard allowance, two flat payments are awarded under travel and public representation.

In Galway West, Fianna Fail’s Frank Fahey topped the list with almost 50 thousand euro followed by Noel Grealish, Michael D Higgins and Padraic McCormack who all claimed 40 thousand each.

In Galway East, Fine Gael’s Ulick Burke topped the expenses list with over 49 thousand euro.

Galway former Senators Ciaran Cannon, Fidelma Healy Eames and Niall O’Brolchain received a total of over 72 thousand euro in travel expenses last year.

They were also awarded a public representation allowance totalling a further 32 thousand euro.

Ciaran Canon ranked the lowest with 31 thousand with both Fidelma Healy Eames and Niall O’Brolchain each awarded 36 thousand.
