Galway Bay fm newsroom – Non urgent surgery at Galway University Hospitals is being deferred again as staff deal with an increase in patient numbers.

The HSE says the emergency department continues to be very busy today, with much of the increase in activity attributed to flu and other seasonal illnesses.

Measures put in place to deal with demand include the deferral of non urgent surgery, ensuring there are no unecessary delays for essential diagnostic tests, and using all available beds.

The public are reminded to keep emergency departments for emergencies and to contact their GP or GP out of hours services in the first instance.
