The stage show Guerrilla Days in Ireland, which sold out when it premiered in Cork’s Everyman Palace last year, is coming to Galway’s Town Hall Theatre in September as part of a nationwide tour.

The play is based on the book by Tom Barry, legendary Commander of the West Cork Flying Column during the War of Independence, whose admirers included the South American revolutionary, Che Guevara.

During the fight for Irish independence from 1919-21 Barry led a volunteer army in a hide-and-seek campaign of guerilla warfare, matching wits against an enemy of overwhelming strength and power.

His account of this conflict has been adapted and directed for the stage by Neil Pearson and the cast for this production includes Tuam actor Brendan Conroy as the adult Tom Barry.

The Irish Examiner described the play as ‘a shattering experience’ and advised people to ‘beg, borrow, steal a ticket, but get to see it.’

Guerilla Days in Ireland is at Town Hall Theatre Galway from Tuesday, September 11 to Saturday, September 15.

Tickets are on sale now from the venue on 091-569777 or http://tht.ie and from the box office.
