Griffin set to leave Connacht for London Irish

Connacht’s season is set to take another turn for the worse as speculation mounts that home-grown talent, Eoin Griffin, is set to sign for London Irish.

The 23-years-old Galway native’s contract with the province expires this Summer and rumours are rife that he is London-bound for next season.

The gifted centre, just a couple of months ago, was linked with a move to Munster. But Connacht coach Pat Lam, at the time, knocked those rumours on the head claiming contract negotiations to keep the Barna Road man at the Sportsground were ongoing.

Sources close to the Connacht camp over the weekend, however, indicated that Griffin is due to be unveiled as the Exile’s new signing.

A Connacht Academy protégé under the stewardship of Nigel Carolan, Griffin has nine U20 caps for Ireland and was part of the Ireland senior ‘emerging squad’ that toured Georgia last year.

Meanwhile, Connacht secured just their third win of the season in the RaboDirect PRO12 on Saturday when defeating Edinburgh 11-7 in the Sportsground in a game short of quality.
