GREENSTAR RENEWS BID TO LIFT REGIONAL BAN ON KILCONNELL DUMP
Date Published: 20-May-2008
Greenstar has made a renewed bid to have a regional restriction on its landfill in East Galway lifted.
County Planners turned down the application to lift the restriction but the Company has appealed this to An Bord Pleanála.
The controversial landfill at Killagh More, near Kilconnell, has consistently met with opposition from local residents.
The company is hoping to lift a restriction on its 2003 waste licence, to allow it accept waste from counties outside Connaught.
County Planners turned down the proposal, stating that lifting the regional restriction could result in the generation of unsustainable long distance transport journeys to and from the site.
However, Greenstar is appealling this refusal, stating that the current Waste Management plan for Connaught acknowledges the movement of waste between regions in line with national policy.
